The Brooklyn City Schools Board of Education formally congratulates Lisa Deliz on being named the next Superintendent of Schools, effective January 1, 2027, following approval during its regular meeting on November 2nd. This news comes in light of the departure of Dr. Ted Caleris, who will be leaving the district in January. Ms. Deliz currently serves the Brooklyn City Schools as Assistant Superintendent and will be working to successfully transition into the role of Superintendent over the next several months.

“The Brooklyn City Schools Board of Education is thrilled to welcome Ms. Deliz to her new role in the District,” according to Board President Kelli Krall. “We look forward to her leadership and fresh insights as we continue our strong forward momentum.”

Ms. Deliz is in her 5th year with the Brooklyn City Schools and brings more than 23 years of total experience in public education, including oversight and leadership in teaching and learning, curriculum, instruction, strategic planning, professional learning, and continuous improvement. Throughout her career, she has also served as a high school principal, assistant principal, intervention specialist and classroom teacher. She earned her bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University and her master’s degree from Notre Dame College of Ohio. She received her principal and superintendent licenses from Ashland University. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Youngstown State University. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she is the proud mother of her adult son, Garrett.

"Brooklyn is a special place. It is a close-knit community where families, staff, and residents genuinely care about one another and are deeply committed to supporting our students and schools,” according to Ms. Deliz. “I am grateful to be part of this community and look forward to continuing to build relationships, working together, and creating opportunities that help our schools and students grow and thrive."

Ms. Deliz has developed a deep appreciation for the district’s students, staff, families, and community, as well as the tremendous pride residents take in their schools. She looks forward to building on that strong foundation and working collaboratively with the entire school community to support student success and continue moving Brooklyn City Schools forward.
